Please Help Setting Up nanoKONTROL2 and Reason Studios?

Hello, midi CC newbie here currently trying Bome MIDI Translator Pro Trial.

I have just purchased a nanoKONTROL2 and I have started using it in Reason 10 (Windows 7 64)

Basically it has took some time getting to know The Korg Editor software does not recognise any midi slots pass midi10.

So I had to go into regedit.exe to delete some midi ports over 10.

Although when I launch The Korg Editor software it does not show the nanoKONTROL2 as being automatically connected; I scroll down the list of controllers and click nanoKONTROL2 then check the ports:

The correct ports for the nanoKONTROL2 are:

In Port: nanoKONTROL2 1SLIDER/KNOB

Out Port: nanoKONTROL2 1 CTRL

(I also choose these ports in Reason 10)

So via the software from Korg 'Uninstall KORG USB-MIDI Device' it now successfully shows nanoKONTROL2 on midi1 See (attached picture 1)

You will also see from the (attached picture 1) It states midi1: Corrupted (nanoKONTROL2 <Connected:)

I have deleted and reinstalled the:

(nanoKONTROL2/KORG USB-MIDI Driver (for Windows 7/8.1) Version:1.15 r34 Date:2020.01.10) many times but I still can not get rid of the Corrupted text???

(maybe this is the problem for not being able to use CC Mode with the nanoKONTROL2?)

So far I have the nanoKONTROL2 working well in Reason Daw mode - and I have successfully set it up using all the standard Reason Instruments controlling and recording automation (attached picture 3) and also to control lots of Avenger VST parameters via remote mode. But these do not get recorded in Automation mode which is what I want.

(Please see (attached picture 2) of the Avenger bottom right corner any CC activity is seen here - my mod wheel and sustain pedal on my studio Logic Pro XP keyboard register as CC activity but again my nanoKONTROL2 does not :(

So my next task is to set it up the nanoKONTROL2 in CC mode.

The manual states to enter CC mode you have to hold down two buttons and plug the nanoKONTROL2 usb cable in. (different two buttons for Cubase, Sonar, Live etc) But nothing specific for Reason. I have tried many possibilities...

This is where I am lost and my extensive Googling of midi controller CC tester led me to download your Bome MIDI Translator Pro Trial.

Please forgive my ignorance but when using your Bome MIDI Translator Pro Trial when I press a button / slider on the nanoKONTROL2 althought the MIDI in LED lights up should the MIDI out LED light up? mine does not!

I do hope someone can help me with my CC problems.

I'm also hoping to use some of my microKorg & Korg Triton Extreme controls in CC mode but that topic is for another day ;)

Thank you for any assistance, please bear in mind I am a newbie in the CC midi world!

Hi,

First of all the Korg drivers are horrible and break lots of MIDI stuff on Windows 10. De-install them and use the standard Windows 10 drivers instead. The first thing about the Korg drivers is that they only allow for 10 MIDI ports but other things break as well. I've used my NanoKontrol2 for a while with only the standard Windows 10 MIDI drivers.

If you want to use MIDI Translator Pro to alter the signals, you will need to either use the MIDI router feature of MT Pro or translators. In the MIDI router, simply connect your application to a Virtual MIDI port and in MT Pro draw a line between your Korg Input and Virtual MIDI output (to the DAW) and visa versa. Everything will pass through untouched. Then use translators if you want to modify any MIDI messages. Please look at our tutorials for various things you would like to try. The tutorials link is on our Support page.

Hi Steve'

Thank you for your swift reply  - as stated above I am using Windows 7 64 should I still uninstall the Korg driver?

Cheers James

Yes use the standard Windows driver

Thank you Steve; just a quick question when set up correctly will the nanoKONTROL2 register the CC value change on the Avenger GUI (see picture 2) like the mod wheel does on my other keyboards?

Cheer James

Probably but if it doesn’t, we can translate to whatever it wants with MT Pro

Ok thanks for now…
