Multiple Identical MIDI devices (APC20)

Hi, is it possible to run two identical MIDI devices into MIDI Translator Pro? Yet be able to translate either device completely differently?

Yes indeed,

You can define both as input devices at the global level and then at the preset or translator level specify which input port you want to translate. The same is with output devices. So you can.

  1. Have 2 APC 20’s input sending different output to a single app (output port)
  2. Have 2 APC 20’s input send different output to multiple output ports.

etc. etc.

I recently worked on a project where the user had an APC20 and APC40 that he wanted to control the same lighting application. Many of the outputs of these devices are the same, so I remapped them to send distinct messages to the same application so the application really saw them as a single large controller.

What did you have in mind?

Hi Steve!

Thanks for the quick reply. I’d like to incorporate two APC20s with my Daslight lighting program (on PC). I currently have LED toggling working, just need more faders and buttons.

On one of my original posts here, I discussed with you the options in toggling LEDs with the APC20 in addition to having one button toggle an entire set of different output values. Essentially, turning one APC20 into two, virtually. After experimenting and realizing how much confusion a user may go through (sometimes I have to hire someone with little-to-no experience to run the controller for acoustic gigs), I’ve decided it would be much more simple to get two tangible controllers.

OK, as long as you have the funding and the desk/table space for 2 controllers.

Let me know if you need anything else.
