Hi, just wondering what we can expect from midi 2.0 😊 if we can get some insight or is it confidential 🥳btw.Happy New Year.

Hi, right now MIDI 2.0 is not released and is in prototyping phase. I expect first prototyping will need to be complete, then MIDI 2.0 spec published and sometime after that applications will be available. Yes Bome is involved in the prototyping phase.

 

Based on past requests about future products, Bome does not pre-announce anything so sorry, nothing to share beyond the above at this time.

Any ballpark estimate on when you will support midi 2.0?

Thank you for the question! We’re deeply involved with MIDI 2.0 (in the standardization teams of the MIDI Association). As you may know, MIDI 2.0 is a whole series of new standards, some working on plain old MIDI 1.0 connections, but there is also the new UMP packet format. We will add more and more MIDI 2.0 functionality step by step, but cannot disclose any concrete time planning.

Is there anything you’re particularly interested in?

Thank you for precision, I have these questions : will it be a new line of Bome products or existing BomeBox and Translator Pro will be “upgraded” to Midi 2 ? With compatibility layer for actual Bome midi ?

We primarily plan to add MIDI 2.0 functionality to existing products.

I am particularly interested in MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression). I would like to translate midi 1.0 notes to Midi 2.0 MPE notes with a desired frequency for each. I want my midi 1.0 keyboard controller to be able to do MPE via the bome midi translator.

It would be nice if it could use scala (Scala Home Page) scale and keyboard mapping files to direct the translation.

and be able to quickly (real time) switch between multiple mappings already stored in memory via a settable keynote and controller message.

I believe MPE is supported in MT Pro as it is not part of MIDI 2.0. Check the dropdown list for incoming and outgoing MIDI messages.

4.2.14.2 MIDI 2.0 Registered Per-Note Controller #3: Pitch 7.25
Registered Per-Note Controller #3 is defined as Pitch 7.25. The message’s 32-bit data field contains:
• 7 bits: Pitch in semitones, based on default Note Number equal temperament scale
• 25 bits: Fractional Pitch above Note Number (i.e., fraction of one semitone)”
I’m new to this translator. Does it support UMP and Midi 2.0 Protocol?

No MIDI UMP or MIDI 2.0 in MIDI Translator Pro yet.
