Bome Products Made My Dream Studio Possible

I’ve been involved in Pro Audio for over 50 years.  Retirement means to me, time to build my dream studio.

It’s in our family room so it’s a home theater, mix stage, and development lab.  The design started off as basic 5.1, then 7.1, to 9.1 finally morphing into Dolby Atmos 9.1.4.

A system of this size, especially as commercial products are just coming on line for immersive sound, meant designing, and building most of the systems, myself.

I collect and program older Eventide H-Series Multi-Channel Digital Effects Systems.  They are magic boxes.  My big issue is there is no remote control for older Eventides, and if you can’t sit in the sweet spot…

Bome to the rescue.  Repurposing a Korg NanoKONTROL through a Bome MIDI Translator, outputting into a BomeBox I am able to control 5 Eventides without getting up from the couch.  To see of the Eventide Screens, 10 feet away I built a video switcher that feeds a small monitor.  All controlled by Bome.

For monitoring I have an 8 channel, Emotiva XMC-1, AV Preamp/Processor.  For the 6 other speakers I have an older Emotiva UMC-1.  The issue is I have to control both processors together.  Considering that one changes volume in 1 dB steps, the other ½ dB I had a problem.

A note; I’ve heard a lot of processors, to me Emotiva is the best.  The sound is transparent and airy, with all the features, at a very reasonable price.

Bome to the rescue.  Bome has a new solution, “IR Remote Control with the BomeBox.”  The system can learn remote control codes and output it using all the power offered by the Bome MIDI Translator Pro software (BMT).  It’s amazing; I’m inputting a Harmony Hub wireless remote into BMT and using it to control any IR devices, MIDI, Pro Tools HUI, and even a Z-Wave Home Control system.

I mentioned Pro Tools; BMT fully handles Mackie HUI and allows me to have wireless remote control of Pro Tools, as well as re-map the Mackie MCU Control Surface to my needs.

Now, some of these situations are pretty complicated, and beyond my programming skills.  Steve Caldwell to the rescue.  For a minimal fee Steve did a lot of the heavy lifting.  And, this forum got me through setups and basics.

One thing Steve did for me was program the wireless remote control, to control a master fader on Pro Tools.  I now can remotely; play, stop, start, control the volume, and mute Pro Tools.  Even switch mixes, great for demonstrating the system.

To me, Bome gives me total control over my dream.  What more could you ask for?
