Changing Midi button to On/Off with one press in Ableton

I'm trying to translate a midi button, which from what I understand initially sends a note on to ableton, then on the second full press will send the note off. I want to be able to press a button and have a device (beat repeat) turn on while it's pressed and then off when released. I feel like this is fairly simple but if anyone can describe the process, I would greatly appreciate it!!

How are you using the device with Ableton? Is it with a pre-set controller mapping in Ableton or are you mapping something yourself?

Can you try and monitor the Press and Release messages from the button through MIDI Translators 'Capture' function? Let me know what it does...
