Hi Folks

I have successfully used the midi out on my Zoom 4040 to change patches on a Bass POD while playing bass live.
I want to use it in a similar way to change patches (presets) on Guitar Box FX running on a laptop, while playing guitar live.
These 24 presets are stored as key presses – F1 to F12, and Ctrl+F1 to Ctrl+F12.
The laptop will have the Sonar SPS25 audio / midi / USB interface that came with Sonar Power Studio 6 attached, to take the other end of the midi cable coming from the Zoom 4040.
I am hoping that one or other version of Midi Translator will do the job. Which one will I need, and will I need an additional program like Midi Yoke?
Any advice would be appreciated ( total novice at midi )

Cheers

I was unable to download the Zoom manual, but I think I have a good idea of what you're trying to do...

You *should* be able to just use the free Classic version of MT to get the functionality you're looking for. MIDI Translator Classic functions as a simple MIDI-to-keystroke and basic MIDI routing application but doesn't include many of the more powerful features like mouse actions, timers, program execution and real time MIDI data modification with rules that Pro has. Also, like you mentioned, MT Classic doesn't include it's own virtual MIDI port drivers.

To be honest, I haven't used the Classic version of MT in a while, but I think it should be a fairly easy set up for you. You should be able to simply capture the MIDI data from your zoom pedal presses in some Translator entries and have them output your keystrokes directly. Assuming you don't have any other software that you're trying to get MIDI data into, a separate virtual MIDI port driver shouldn't be required.

The only possible difficulty I can see you running into with the Classic version vs. the Pro version would be in the actual number of functions you are wanting to program your 4040 to do. Meaning; is the 4040 going to be able to output the 24 unique MIDI messages you're going to need, one for each of your required keypresses? Not having the manual for the 4040 I can't tell you much about what kind of data you're going to see or what kind of options the 4040 has available.

So basically; With Pro you would be able to create presets, shift buttons, etc to give your controller more functionality and options in setup, but assuming your foot controller has the proper controls and options available the Classic version might be just what you need...

Please let us know if you need any more help!
