MidiMonitor in WinXP while working with MT / Port in use?

Hey Guys,

i just switched from OSX to Win (EPIC FAIL! :-) )due to the momentary lack of a few features in the current Mac beta...

On Osx i normally have the controller pluged in, the MT is running and i monitor the incoming and outgoing midimessages with "midimonitor v.1.2". On OSX i can do all this at the same time without having any problems. That´s great because i can do kind of reverse engineering of the delivered controller software that normally works in between the controller and the midiapplication (Ableton e.g.)

On Win it seems one Midiport/app can be used only by one application at the same time. Therefore I cant monitor with Midi-Ox while running MT or the software delivered with my controller at the same time...because if i do so i always get the message "port already in use"...

How can i solve this?

thx a bunch!

on windows you typically use virtual ports for that, i.e. create a chain of MIDI applications, rather than all of them accessing the same ports.

E.g.
MIDI device -> MT -> Yoke 1 -> MIDI Monitor -> Yoke 2 -> Ableton

You can also use MT's log window for some monitoring.
