Sysex inconsistency?

I've been checking for a particular Sysex message coming into MT and sending a Key Press when it comes in.

On my desktop machine it works occasionally but is inconsistent (usually it doesn't work). I can see the midi in monitor flashing but the translate and keypress don't register.

On my laptop however, the same setup works faultlessly.

I've used Midi-Ox to monitor the midi messages and they seem fine.

Is this a known issue? Is anyone aware of any sources of potential conflict?

It is the same version/build by the way 1.6.1 896.
XP Pro on the desktop. Home on the Laptop.

Hi,

this is very curious. Sys Ex messages should be supported by MT in any case. Some MIDI drivers are known to be problematic with Sys Ex, maybe you can update the drivers for your device?

Can you use the "Capture MIDI" function in Edit Translator to find out more what is actually arriving in MT?

Thanks,
Florian

Capture Midi works fine and I can see the midi coming in on the monitor but the translate monitor shows that the messages aren't getting translated consistently.

The sysex messages are automap messages coming out of software called Vjamm via a midi yoke
.

Maybe I should try a different virtual midi thingy.

well, if the sys ex messages arrive correctly in the capture field, the virtual ports seem to be OK...

Can you post your preset here? Just select all translators and copy/paste here.

Thanks,
Florian

OK - there's only one translator. Changing the outgoing action doesn't make any difference.

Translator 1: New Translator
Options: stop=false
Incoming: MIDI F0 00 20 29 03 03 11 04 01 00 02 01 00 01 04 4C 6F 61 64 69 6E 67 20 46 69 6E 69 73 68 65 64 F7
Outgoing: Keystroke: A

Thanks,

Gavin

Using Maple Virtual Midi instead of MidiYoke seems to have cured this problem.

Weird though - watching the values in Midi-Ox and they seemed to be spot on but somehow they weren't triggering the translator every time.

It is easy to make mistakes when you've got midi flying around everywhere but I really did check it over alot and nothing seems to explain this inconsistent behaviour.

Hi gavspav,

indeed a weird problem. Glad you solved it though. We receive problem reports using MidiYoke every now and then, so maybe it's the cause of the problem. MidiOX is made by the same company as Yoke, so probably that's why it works OK with it...
