Bomes Ableton

I'd like to do some simple keystrokes with midi translator, Ableton, and Remote SL. I've installed the classic version but my the SL isn't showing up in Midi in or out. The SL is recognized fine by Ableton and it's own editing program, is there any trickery I could be missing? thanks

figured it out..
amazing what kind of problems a usb cable being "partly" unplugged will do. damn deceptive when the units lights are on though.
