Slightly OT: Hardware SysEx Translator

Hello! This software looks brilliant! However, I am building a hardware controller, and don't want to use a computer as a go-between, although I may resort to that. Here's what I'm looking for: a piece of hardware that can translate either MIDI CC to SysEx, or CV to SysEx. Preferably at least 16 controller "inputs" or more. I've read about people converting Peavey 1600s to do something similar, and I've thought of doing a PIC/BASIC Stamp Controller project. Any info is appreciated, thanks!
