we hear you! it's planned for the next update (which will not take as long as the 1.8 update).
Thanks

Any news about the update for this? :)

BTW: I've upgraded to Windows 10 and can confirm MT works perfectly fine.

I just sent an email asking about cheap OEM licensing / MT Player for exactly this purpose (minimizing to tray / "locking" for performance mode) so I'm glad to see it's in the works. This is just me adding my vote to the tally of how useful this feature would be. Didn't even realize it had previously existed and been removed...

Not only "minimize to tray", but also the ability to run automatically at logon already minimized to tray.

Agreed.
I am currently using the Windows Task Manager to schedule the auto-launch of MT pro.

Hi,
there is a setting already in version 1.8.0 for automatic start-up with computer boot ("Auto Start" in the settings window).

We're working these days on the integration of the "minimize to tray" and "start minimized" options.

Regards,
Florian

Why is it taking so long? :S

Welcome to software development... two weeks ago, it just took me a couple of hours to implement it. It worked. Done? not so fast...

Tests on Windows and Mac... icons did not look good... found you need a hack on Windows so that the tray icons look OK... user manual needs to be updated...

Beta test is going on now. Found problems with other minor new features. Fixing those... And these days, we're very busy with NAMM preparations, too -- many deadlines!

Last but not least, releasing a new version of the software also takes a full day just for the release. That's why we don't do mini-updates. But version 1.8.1 shouldn't take much longer...

Thanks,
Florian

PS: owners of a license are always entitled to a beta version, just send me a note!

very excited with the "minimize to tray" implementation...

BTW I've been a fan of Copperlan for almost two years -- mostly because it will keep a virtual midi port open even if the linked device goes offline (which is especially important when I'm doing a live show and want to hot-connect midi devices while Ableton Live remains open)...

Anyway, I've started having problems with Copperlan (using Finale 2014 with my mini keyboard in cafes) and I came back to Midi Translater to try the routing function -- VERY VERY NICE! It keeps the port open and as soon as a device is plugged, it goes online with open apps.. FANTASTIC! My only issue is that the program goes to the tool bar and that worries me, that it takes up space and that I might accidentally click on it during a show and get Midi Translator on top of my screen..

So, please, sign me up... and as soon as "minimize to tray" is available, I would love to sign up as a beta tester...

Minimize to tray..

Been using the freeware TrayIt! with Midi Translator for the past week with good success... can be set to minimize to tray on boot...

This option has been implemented into the 1.8.1 beta version, and is functional, so we will see it on the next release of the software.

Thanks for the update. Is there a tentative release date for the 1.8.1 beta version?

Hi Bob,
I've tried to reach you for a beta 1.8.1, but the email bounced. I'll try again.
Florian

PS: I've taken the liberty to fix the version numbers in your posts

Hi Florian,

I've been using the most recent (a month or so ago?) "final" beta version of 1.81 and it's been functioning perfectly. I have it set up with 9 MT vMidi ports and 9 LoopMidi ports, using the MT for hardware (so that Ableton sees the midi port as always open and available, even if the hardware is temporarily disconnected) and the LoopMidi for program-to-program communication (e.g. Mobius-to-Ableton and Ableton-to-Ableton)... everything is working great. Even the install of the 1.81 beta was great and elegant, it uninstalled the 1.8 and installed the 1.81 beta and loaded up the default (most recent) mapping, all without problem.

So my question is, my 1.81 will expire in two weeks or so.. is there a way to extend it, or must I go back to 1.8 when the time is up?

Thanks much for your excellent work and also your phenomenal tech support. All the best,
Bob Thomas
